HOPE RISING

Saturday, October 1, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

In San Diego there is an ugly truth - our region has been designated a hot spot for human trafficking. Hope Rising, on October 1, 2016, hosted by the Center for Justice & Reconciliation at Point Loma Nazarene University, will bring attention to this issue, honor local leaders who are working to end human trafficking and raise funds for the Center's human trafficking initiatives. The Center for Justice & Reconciliation at PLNU focuses on Research, Education and Advocacy. Hope Rising will fund two of the Center's lead initiatives - the Beauty for Ashes Scholarship Fund and the Human Trafficking Awareness Curriculum. The Beauty for Ashes Scholarship Fund was created to fund college education for survivors of human trafficking. The University currently has three survivors enrolled full time under the Scholarship, with many more in the application process. At PLNU we believe so strongly that there is hope and a future for survivors that we come alongside their pursuit of a new life. The CJR is also leading a collaboration to design and implement a peer-to-peer human trafficking awareness curriculum to reach the hearts and minds of our region's youth. Piloting this fall, the program will be implemented in the San Diego Unified School District. Hope Rising is raising funds to support the implementation of this critical program.
