SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in Northern California say officers who were responding to a domestic violence call on a busy street resulted in a fatal officer-involved shooting.
Alameda County Sheriff's Sgt. Ray Kelly says deputies were forced to shoot and kill a man who was trying to run down officers with his car near a busy intersection near downtown San Leandro Thursday evening.
Kelly said witnesses saw the man viciously beating the woman on the street and repeatedly smashing her head against his car before officers arrived on the scene.
Authorities say the woman has been hospitalized with severe head injuries but is expected to survive.
The incident is under investigation.
The names of the officers, the suspect and the victim involved in the incident have not been released.
